Getting Healthy

Sometimes things just gang up on you–and you just have to do something about it. I have had a pile of reasons to think more seriously about getting healthy. For a guy like me, being physically healthy has always come second to other concerns like work, ministry– and the enjoyment of a good steak.

Here are some of my reasons for getting serious about health:

  • Last september, about a year ago, my 45 year old brother died from high blood pressure.
  • My wife is working out and putting me to shame.
  • My father is halfway to his ideal weight, and although he is not bragging, he certainly has mentioned it, and I don’t like to get beat by the other men in my family.
  • I am 40 something and I am certainly feeling some of the aches and pains.
  • Church planters and my college and married children can stay up later than me.
  • I am having some serious discussion with my doctor about exercise.

All of that to say, I want to finish my race and get healthier to do it.  So I am on a journey to improve my health and condition.  I am going to be vulnerable and share it here.  I would love to hear suggestions, and might even take a few.

  1. Well, actually dad, I can’t stay up much later than you… but you should seriously consider starting on those supplements http://www.healthnutgoesgreen.com

  2. Yay! I’m so glad your starting to think healthy.
I realize that the core demagraphic is women, but I get daily emails from hungrygirl.com that are great for finding healthy recipes for foods that I love (pizza, wings, tacos, cheese dip). It’s full of helpful tips and lists healthy products that actually taste good. Maybe you could have Dawn sign up for it so that you can still benefit from all the info. RealAge.com is another good one. Good luck! It’s an uphill battle, but it’ll be worth it :)
